A part of being a photographer that’s different from being a reporter is that you have to be there. Was it cold? YES! Was it fun? Yes. Now when I first got the assignment I was not happy. It basically said “In three days ice shanties had to be off the lakes in Minnesota. Please find people fishing or taking off their little houses” It was a Wednesday. Most people work. There was no one on the ice. I went to four different lakes and ran into three people and those folks were just coming and going. I was getting frustrated. On the last lake I took this picture. Even though it was cold, windy and I was tired, it was still very beautiful. So I made a pretty picture that made me happy and enjoyed the quiet.
